This standard applies to steel wire used for the manufacture of spokes of motorcycles and bicycles.
1. TYPES AND BASIC DIMENSIONS
1.1. The diameter of the wire and limit deviation shall be as specified in table.1.

Customer’s request wire diameter of 1.80 and 2.00 mm are made with the limit deviation for diameter — 0.04 mm.
By agreement with the consumer it is allowed manufacture of wire with plus extreme deviations in diameter with preservation of the tolerance field.
1.2. Ovality of the wire (the difference between the largest and smallest diameters of the same section) should not exceed half the tolerance on the diameter.
1.1, 1.2 (Revised edition, Edit. N 4).
Example of designation of wire diameter 4.0-spoke:
Wire 4 GOST 3110−74
2. TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS
2.1. Wire shall be manufactured in accordance with the requirements of this standard for technological regulations approved in the prescribed manner, of steel grades 35, 40 and 45 according to GOST 1050, GOST 10702 and the 14−1-4665, THE 14−1-4666.
(Changed edition, Rev. N 3, 4).
2.2. The surface of the wire should be smooth, without cracks, shells, sunsets, wooloowin, sinks and rust. Copper-plated surface of the wire is not allowed. Allowed some risks, scratches, nicks and dents, the depth of which shall not be more than half of the tolerance on the diameter.
(Changed edition, Rev. N 4).
2.3. Mechanical properties the wire shall conform to the standards specified in table.2.

Note. Determination of the number of twists is carried out at the request of the consumer.
(Changed edition, Rev. N 2, 4).
2.4. Wire in the cold state must be able to withstand a landing of the head without the formation of cracks on the belt head. Allowed defects to a depth of not more than half of the limit deviation for diameter of the head.
2.5. Wire is manufactured in coils and coils. The wire coils are made by agreement between the consumer and the manufacturer.
A coil (coil) must consist of one segment. The wire should be wound separatornyi rows and free to Mosey skeins (coils). When releasing the skeins from the bindings wire not be withdrawn in «eight».
The inner diameter of a coil wire with a diameter of 3.96 mm should be not less than 350 mm.
2.6. Weight of a coil (coils) of wire should be:
wire diameter 4.5−3.5 mm — not less than 60 kg;
for a wire diameter of 3.0 mm or less — not less than 30 kg.
Allowed wire bundles (coils) of wire weighing 50% less than specified not more than 10% of the total mass of the wire in the party.
2.5, 2.6. (Changed edition, Rev. N 4).
3. ACCEPTANCE RULES
3.1. Wire take parties. The party should consist of wire of the same size and must be issued a document about quality that contains:
trademark or the name and trademark of manufacturer;
symbol wire;
the net mass;
the number of coils (coils);
the results of the tests.
(Changed edition, Rev. N 3, 4).
3.2. Visual inspection and measurement of wire diameter is subjected to each coil (coil). To check the mass of the skeins (coils) select 10% of the coils (coils) of the party, but not less than three.
(Changed edition, Rev. N 4).
3.3. To test mechanical properties and test landing head take 5% skeins (coils), but not less than three coils (coils).
3.4. If unsatisfactory test results of at least one of the indicators for him to repeat the test at twice the number of skeins (coils). The results of repeated tests apply to the entire party.
(Changed edition, Rev. N 3, 4).
4. TEST METHODS
4.1. For each test of the selected coils (coils) take one sample.
4.2. Diameter and ovality of wire is measured in two mutually perpendicular directions of the same cross-section in at least two different parts of the winding (coil) with a micrometer according to GOST 6507.
4.1, 4.2. (Changed edition, Rev. N 4).
4.3. Inspection of the wire surface is produced without the use of magnifying devices.
Determining the depth of the surface defect must be a sweep to remove it with the subsequent comparative measurements of neighboring properties — stripped and unstripped.
4.4. Test wire tensile is carried out according to GOST 10446.
4.5. Test the wire on the bend is carried out according to GOST 1579.
4.6. Test wire torsion is carried out according to GOST 1545 when the length of tested part of the specimen, equal to 100 .
4.7. Test wire on the landing head carried on the press of any design, adapted for cold upsetting of the head.
The shape and size of planted heads shall be as specified in the drawing and in the table.3.

The height of the shoulder of () between the spherical and conical parts of the head is not regulated and is determined by the size of the head.
Landing heads must be manufactured in one operation. The end of the wire intended for the landing of heads, must be received by otrubki. The mechanical sweep of the plane before landing is not allowed.
Size provide accessories and on samples of the wire is not check.
4.6, 4.7. (Changed edition, Rev. N 4).
5. PACKING, MARKING, TRANSPORTATION AND STORAGE
5.1. Prior to packaging the wire must be coated with a thin layer of liquid lubricant according to technical documentation approved in the established procedure, which protect from corrosion.
5.2. Each coil of wire shall be tied with soft wire according to GOST 3282 or other wire according to normative-technical documentation in at least three places evenly spaced around the circumference of the roll. The ends of the wire on the roll must be neatly stacked and easy to find.
5.3. Each coil (coil) should be wrapped with a layer of paper, then a layer of a polymeric film or nonwoven materials, or woven fabrics of the chemical fibers. When mechanized packaging a coil of wire must be wrapped with a layer of cable crepe paper according to GOST 10396 or paper brand CMS-170, or other creped paper, equal in protective properties, or a polymer film with simultaneous locking packaging wire according to GOST 3282, or another wire.
