These technical conditions apply to rods made of precision alloy grade 42KhNM, smelted in open induction furnaces, or 42KhNM-Sh, smelted in open induction furnaces with subsequent electroslag remelting.
At the customer's request, specified in the order, the alloy must meet the requirements of delivery conditions 01-1874-62.
Example of a symbol:
Hot rolled rod, round, 40 mm in diameter, grade 42ХНМ:

The alloy grade code is given in Appendix B.
1 ASSORTMENT
1.1. Rods are manufactured with a diameter of:
- hot rolled 8; 9 mm and from 40 to 75 mm.
- forged 80 mm.
1.2. The shape and dimensions of the rods must comply with the requirements of GOST 22411.
The maximum deviations in the dimensions of the rods must comply with the requirements for:
hot rolled:
- diameter 8 and 9 mm - +1.0 mm;
-0.75
- diameter from 40 to 55 mm - 2nd accuracy group GOST 22411;
- diameter from 60 to 70 mm - +2.5 mm;
- diameter 75 mm - +3.0 mm;
forged with a diameter of 80 mm - +3.0 mm.
1.3. The ovality of the rods must not exceed 0.7 of the sum of the maximum deviations in diameter.
1.4. The curvature of the rods should not exceed 2 mm per 1 m of length after straightening.

1.5. Rods are supplied in non-dimensional, dimensional or multiple dimensional lengths.
When supplying rods of measured or multiple measured length, the maximum deviation for the measured length or multiple is +100 mm.
2 TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS
2.1. The chemical composition of the alloy must comply with the requirements of Table 1.
2.2. The rods are supplied without heat treatment.
2.3. The mechanical properties of rods, determined at room temperature on heat-treated longitudinal samples cut from rods, must comply with the requirements of Table 2.

2.4. The macrostructure of the rods should not have any shrinkage cavity residues, subcortical bubbles, cracks, slag inclusions, or delaminations visible to the naked eye. The quality of the macrostructure is assessed by central porosity, point heterogeneity, general and marginal spotty liquation in points, and the magnitude of the defects should not exceed:
- central porosity - 2 points;

The macrostructure standards in points for forged rods are optional for the first at least 5 heats, the results are recorded in the quality document.
For rods with a diameter of 8 mm and 9 mm, macrostructure control in points is not carried out.
2.5. The surface of hot-rolled and forged rods must not have cracks, folds, or films.
Small films, scratches, dents and rolls are allowed on the surface, the depth of which does not exceed the sum of the maximum deviations in diameter.
Cleaning of defects is permitted, but the depth of cleaning should not take the rods beyond the minimum cross-section.
2.6. The contamination of the alloy with non-metallic inclusions when assessed according to the maximum score for each type should not exceed:
oxides (OS, OT) - 2 points.
silicates (CX, SP) - 2 points.
sulfides (C) - 2 points.
nitrides (NS, NT) - 3 points.
2.7. The incidence of internal defects in rods with a diameter of 45 mm or more during ultrasonic testing must correspond to quality group 1 according to GOST 21120.

3 ACCEPTANCE RULES AND TEST METHODS
3.1. General acceptance rules - in accordance with GOST 7566.
3.2. Rods are accepted in batches. A batch must consist of rods of the same heat and the same diameter, and be documented with one quality document.
3.3. To check the quality of rods from each batch, the following are selected:
- determination of chemical composition - one sample from the melt;
- tensile tests - one sample from two rods;
- control of macrostructure - one template from two rods;
- control of non-metallic inclusions - one sample from 6 rods.
3.4. Each rod is subject to geometrical dimension control. Measurements are made with a caliper according to GOST 166, a ruler according to GOST 427 or another measuring instrument that ensures the required measurement accuracy.
3.5. Each rod is subjected to surface quality control. Control is carried out visually without the use of magnifying devices.
3.6. Sampling for testing mechanical properties is carried out in accordance with GOST 7564.
3.7. Tensile testing at a temperature of ()°C is carried out in accordance with GOST 1497.
3.8. Control and assessment of the macrostructure is carried out in the supplied profile in accordance with GOST 10243.
3.9. Control of alloy contamination with non-metallic inclusions is assessed according to GOST 1778, method Ш6.
3.10. Sampling for chemical analysis is carried out in accordance with GOST 7565.
Chemical analysis is carried out according to GOST 12344 - GOST 12350, GOST 12352, GOST 12354, GOST 12356, GOST 12357, GOST 12359, GOST 28473, GOST 29095 or other methods that ensure the accuracy of determination.

3.11. Ultrasonic testing is carried out according to GOST 21120 or according to the supplier plant's methodology. Each rod is subject to testing.
4. MARKING, PACKAGING, TRANSPORTATION AND STORAGE
4.1. Marking, packaging, transportation and storage - in accordance with GOST 7566.
4.2. Metal smelted using the electroslag method is additionally stamped with the letter "Ш".
