Relevance
Permalloys are characterized as iron-nickel alloys that have relatively high permeability in weak fields. Belonging of every alloy to a defined group depends on extrusion rate of magnetic and electrical properties and a quantity of nickel. Marking 50N indicates a content of nickel in alloy (50%). It is hard-welded and that is why there are made a thermal processing and the last annealing for strengthening the welds. Nowadays, sheet, strip of this grade have the widest application. These are details of soft-magnetic constructions that are used in instrument engineering and energetics.
Application
Due to its small magnetostriction, sheet, strip are used in high-accurate units that have stable characteristics in a variable magnetic field. They possess small changes of real resistance depending on force and sense of a magnetic field. Sheet, strip are used in manufacturing the transformer flakes, elements of magnetic recording heads, cores of small-sized transformers, relay actuators, chokes and details of magnetic circuits. They operate while working with minimal magnetizing at high magnitudes of induction.

Iron-nickel alloys are smelted in an open arc furnace. Except for analogous alloys, permalloy 50N does not contain phosphorus. It possesses a small variation of electrical resistance (not more than 5%), which are defined by force and existent magnetic orientation. This alloy must be alloyed with such elements as cuprum, mangan, silicon for strengthening of electromagnetic properties. A smelt is done in a vacuum or inert gas envinronment. Semi-fabricates of minimal thickness are manufactured with a method of cold-rolled stamping with further annealing. It is done for increasing magnetic properties. Permalloy of this grade has improved features and an increased magnetizing. This alloy is characterized by a significant magnetic sensitivity in relation to external changes.
