Nichrome grade, wire and strip requirements
Buyer searches may use Nichrome 60/15, Nichrome 80/20, NiCr, NiCrFe, trade names or UNS and EN designations. These terms are not automatically interchangeable. Provide the exact chemistry or standard, wire diameter or strip and sheet dimensions, coil or spool requirement, resistance target, operating temperature, surface condition, certificates, quantity and destination ZIP code.
Composition
Nichrome contains of nickel and chrome. A composition is enriched with such elements as: ferrum, aluminium, silicon, mangan, titanium, sulfur, phosphorus, carbon up to 1%. Physical features of different alloy grades are a function of fraction of components and miscellaneous materials. Nickel tends to merge other metals, and at the same time to keep corrosion resistance and not to lose a high temperature strength and plasticity. Chrome raise a corrosion resistance and a high temperature strength; it imparts a firmness to alloy.

Usefulness of nichrome
Nichrome 80−20 grade can stand heating up to 1200 ° C; Nichrome 60−15 grade - up to 1125 ° C. At that, a minimum temperature coefficient of expansion does not allow a wire to sag. These advantages, along with corrosion resistance, make this alloy an indispensable heating element, which can be exploited in an aggressive environment at significant temperatures. There is quite a huge range of products that may be made of it, as it is malleable, it can be easily drilled, pressed, welded and rolled in a very thin wire. Nichrome is relatively expensive, but its high cost is offset by strength, durability, reliability to a full extent.
Dimension
The main and most popular grades are Nichrome 60−15 (15% of Cr, 60% of Ni) and Nichrome 80−20 (20% of Cr, 80% of Ni). There are also other analogous grades in catalog. Before buying it is necessary to define an application of alloy.
International marking
Nichrome 60−15 grade: 15% of Cr, 60% of Ni, 24% of Iron, 675 ohms/cmf, the flowing temperature is 1390 °C. The international analogues: Alloy C, Chromel C, Cronifer II, N6, Nikrothal 60, Ni60Cr15, Nikrothal 6;
Nichrome 80−20: 80% of Ni, 20% of Cr, 650 ohms/cmf, flowing temperature is 1200 °C. Resistohm 80, Euronichrome N8, Chromel A, Cronix 80, HAI-NiCr 80, Nichrome V, Nikrothal 8, Ni80Cr20. Thanks to Albert Marsh's inventions in 1905, nichrome literally blinded a whole world by its brilliance. This alloy is not only met urgent requirements of a metallurgy of that time, but even divined them. Within a few years after opening of nichrome, it finds wide application in a manufacture of household appliances. «General Electric» had turned an attention to this material and started a manufacture of a heating element for electric toasters, which were previously made with an iron spiral. Meanwhile, a quality of construction appeared to be much higher. Nichrome filament does not rust like iron. It does not sag when heating and melting. These properties allow a wide application of this material in food industry.
