3.0 GENERAL PART
| This section generally covers studs, nuts and washers. Bolted connections of other designs shall comply with this specification as applicable. |
4.0 CONSTRUCTION MATERIAL
| The material of the structures must correspond to the name of the item. Substitution of materials without the prior permission of the Buyer is prohibited. All materials must be suitable for work at low temperatures /-36°C/. | |||||
| 4.1 | Unless otherwise specified, in addition to the item name, bolts, nuts and washers shall be supplied as follows: | ||||
| 4.1.1 | ANSI Flange Studs and Nuts | ||||

| Materials and testing shall comply with the relevant requirements of NACE MR-01-75, ASTM A320 and A194, as applicable. | |||||
| 4.1.2 | Studs and nuts for API SPEC 6A-BX flanged service /NACE MR-01-75 Class I Temperature Class M and Class H Liquid Service Bolts and Nuts/. The material must meet the requirements set out in paragraph 4.1.1. | ||||
| In addition, studs and nuts shall comply with the requirements of API SPEC 6A, Section XC, Table XC1. | |||||

5.0 BOLT LENGTHS AND THREADS
| 5.1 | The diameter and length of the studs shall correspond to the metric dimensions of ANSI B16.5 Supplement H and the flanges of that standard. The listed lengths shall be dimension "L", measured from thread to thread, excluding chamfers. |
| 5.2 | Bolt lengths shall comply with Appendix C of SPEC API 6A flange classification. |
| 5.3 | All threads for use with ANSI class flanges shall be ISO/R-261 metric normal pitch only or comply with NORM AFNORE 03-013. |
| 5.4 | All threads for API SPEC 6A flanges. |
6.0 LABELING AND PRESERVATION
| 6.1 | Marking | ||
| Marking shall comply with the relevant requirements of ASTM A320, A194 and API SPEC 6A, as applicable. | |||
| 6.2 | Prevention | ||
| 6.2.1 | Protection from mechanical damage | ||
| All bolts and nuts must be adequately protected during loading, unloading and transportation. | |||
| 6.2.2 | Corrosion protection | ||
| All bolts, nuts and washers must be protected from corrosion during shipping and subsequent outdoor storage for at least 6 months with Rust-Ban or similar coating that is easily removed with a petroleum solvent such as Varsol. | |||
