Technical characteristics

Stainless chrome steel 95X18 is manufactured in accordance with the following GOST 5632-72; 5949-75 and 4405-75; and specifications: 14-1-4628-89 и 14-1-1848-75. This stainless alloy is used to produce bar and strip steel by forging or rolling. Hot deformation is performed in the temperature range of 1130 to 950 °C, followed by tempering (temperature of 750 °C) and cooling. This hardened steel alloy is used in the production of parts with high hardness: bushings, bearings, knives, etc.

Production

This steel is a martensitic alloy. It is melted in open electric arc and induction furnaces, as well as in vacuum induction furnaces with subsequent vacuum-arc remelting. The quality of 95X18 grade products is normalized by the state standards. Tempering temperature is 1045 °C and tempering temperature is 200 °C. After quenching, hardening occurs as a result of martensitic transformation and hardness reaches 197-207 ^NV-1. Increasing the quenching temperature increases the proportion of residual austenite. The optimum hardness is achieved at a hardening temperature of 1050 °C. The grain pearlite structure is given to the steel by annealing and hot deformation is carried out in the temperature range of 1130 to 950 °C. Billets are rolled and bars are drawn. Cracking is possible during rapid cooling.

Corrosion rate

- in a humid atmosphere saturated with _NH3 and _{H2 S2} up to 0.005 mm/year;

-in solution, _{H2 S2}, (saturation of 2.5 g/l) - up to 0.0135 mm/year;

- in aqueous solution of _NH3, the corrosion rate (t° 20 °C) to 0.006 mm/year; and at 90 °C, to 0.097 mm/year;

- in a mixture of aliphatic hydrocarbons, (t° 20-90 °C) to 0.003 mm/year;

Use

This alloy is widely used in mechanical engineering and metallurgy. After hot deformation, followed by soaking at t ° 750 ° C and cooling achieved hardening, allowing the production of parts with high hardness: bushes, bearings, knives, etc. The products made from this steel meet the high requirements to corrosion resistance, they are able to withstand repeated heat treatment, which is necessary for medical instruments. They can be processed in washing machines, they do not lose their qualities in chlorinated water.
