Technical characteristics
Alloy composition plays a very important role for two-component brass. Level of zinc saturation concentration in copper at low temperature is 39%. This index decreases at essential temperature rise. At a temperature of 905 °C it equals 2%. Those brasses that contain less than 39% of zinc have single-phase zinc solution structure in copper. If to add bigger zinc content into molten copper, zinc will not completely solve. That is why brass will be very hard and brittle after solidification. It will already have duplex structure and high strength. Plasticity, however, will be much lower than in single-phase brasses.

The more zinc content in brass is, the more strength it possesses. But by doing so, there decreases plasticity of material. The more complicated hard composition is the less plasticity it possesses. As a consequence, brass becomes more brittle. Its strength increases only at 45% of zinc content. Then, strength and plasticity start to decrease sharply.
Pressure treatment
Most brasses are well pressure treated. Single-phase brasses possess distinctive plasticity. They can deform at very low and high temperatures. There is a peculiarity of brass pressure treating — for treatment in cold state, there is used single-phase brass, which has good plasticity and low strength. When temperature rises, its plasticity a bit decreases. That is why such kind of brass cannot be treated in hot state. Only duplex brass with high zinc content can be used for treatment in hot state.

This alloy is mainly used in manufacture of bars (wire) for brass gas welding and carbon steel deposit welding.
