Demerits
Virtually the only one demerit is high self-cost of such pipes as long as molybdenum relates to rare-earth elements and it is hardly isolated in a pure state. Besides, it is refractory and hardly processed metal.
Application
Technological development of modern industry directly depends on adaptation of new-generation materials and high technologies. Pipes made out of refractory metals (niobium, tungsten, chrome, tantalum) relate to such products. Molybdenum pipe is considered to be one of the best as for today. It possesses unique properties. Alloying of steels and alloys with molybdenum (up to 0.8%) increases their strength, hardenability, hardness, ductility, resistance to aggressive environment so much that allows to use them in manufacture of essential blocks and parts. There are a large number of spheres where molybdenum pipe can be applied. For example air-space industry, chemical manufacturing, defense industry, nuclear energetics. If there is needed high reliability to aggressive environment at temperatures higher than 1000 °C, molybdenum pipes have no alternatives. Generally, they can be made with a thickness of 1−2.5 mm and diameter of 20−30 mm.
