Ti-6Al-6V-2Sn product forms and RFQ details

Current U.S. searches use Ti-6Al-6V-2Sn and 6Al-6V-2Sn designations. For a valid quotation, provide the AMS, ASTM or project specification, required wire, rod or bar, diameter and tolerances, heat-treatment condition, surface, testing and certificate requirements, quantity and destination ZIP code. A generic vanadium-rod request is not sufficient to identify this titanium alloy.

General characteristics

European alloy Ti-6Al-6V-2Sn (ti 6−6-2) is alloyed with 6% of aluminium, 6% of vanadium, 2% of tin. It is usually used in annealed and hardened form. Hardening is achieved by heat treatment and cold deformation. This titanium alloy has lower ductility and strength than titanium of grade 5. It belongs to a group of hard-welded grades. Alloy ti 6−6-2 can be welded under a protection of inert gas. Hardness of this titanium alloy is about 36−38 according to Rockwell-scale.

Percentage composition according to ASTM standard

Alloy not only can be hot formed, but cold formed as well. Available mill-products: pipe, flat and long products, forgings, fittings, flanges. Titanium mill products are usually annealed in a range of 1300°F — 1500 °F under protection of an inert gas atmosphere.

Hardening

Strength properties can be significantly increased by mechanical hardening. Hardening achieves by cold deformation of titanium. It can be particularly high at deformation degree of up to 40%. Mechanical hardening has a little hardening effect. Recrystallization leads to titanium softening. Softening degree reaches 80% at final temperature of recrystallization. If there is needed great strength, it is necessary to use forging pressing.

Application

Rod, wire of ti 6−6-2 are used in pumps parts, manufacture of fastener fittings, shafts of marine engines, fragments of rocket engine and nuclear reactor. Typical spheres of application include motor industry, aircraft manufacturing.
