(required)

Methodology for conducting short-term creep tests.

(Creep tests with rapid heating of the specimen to the test temperature

and the duration of the test itself from a minute or more)

For short-term creep tests, serial testing units of the MP-3 and MP-4 types with modified grips and a heat shield installed to protect the upper loading mechanism and a support crosspiece for installing the furnace can be used. Short-term creep tests are carried out on round (7 and 10 mm in diameter) and flat (up to 4 mm thick) samples.

After the sample is installed and the furnace is moved to the uppermost position, the maximum possible power is supplied to the heating elements of the two-section furnace. The furnace is heated to a temperature close to the specified test temperature of the sample. When this temperature is reached, the first intermediate mode is set for further heating of the furnace: during this period, the temperature is equalized along the height of the furnace muffle. The heating modes are preliminarily determined empirically for each furnace. After reaching the permissible temperature difference (±2÷4) °C along the furnace height, the furnace with the established specified temperature is quickly lowered onto the sample and the sample is heated using the same electrical mode. When the temperature on the sample is 10°C lower than the specified test temperature, the second furnace operating mode is set. During this period, the temperature in the furnace reaches the specified value and the required load is applied to the sample.

To measure the deformation of the test samples, extensometer systems with threaded (M 16x2) clamp bars and spring indicators with a division value of 0.01 mm and a full working stroke of 10 mm are used.

Temperature is measured using thermocouples, the TEMF of which is recorded on a PP-type potentiometer. Chromel-alumel thermocouples are used for tests up to 950 °C, and platinum-rhodium-platinum thermocouples for tests above 950 °C. Two thermocouples are installed on samples with a design length of up to 50 mm, and three thermocouples are installed on samples with a design length over 50 mm.

The regulation of the electric modes of the furnace is carried out separately for each heater and, in general, the furnace is regulated in the mode of changing the electric power within certain limits (according to the "less-more" principle).

C.8

TU 14-1-1589-2015

The time from the moment the sample begins to heat up until the start of the test is from 15 to 18 minutes.

Temperature conditions when the furnace is supplied with stabilized voltage allow maintaining a set temperature (±0.5) °C in the furnace without additional regulation for a significant period of time.
