3.2 sample point: the Sample of the metal taken at a time from the installed portion of the cathode included in the sample.

3.3 the composite sample: a Sample consisting of all point samples that characterize the average chemical composition of the party.

6 Methods to control

6.1 Selection and preparation of samples

6.1.1 To monitor the chemical composition of each cathode sample selected spot samples.

6.1.2 sampling should be used methods and tools, eliminating the contamination and oxidation of samples. The cathode surface before sampling should be cleaned of dust and other mechanical contaminants with a stiff brush (non-metallic).

Discard the surface layer of metal when sampling is not allowed.

6.1.3 Spot samples from the entire cathode were taken by cutting (pressing) discs with a diameter of from 10 to 40 mm or drilling through at four points on the corners, a distance of 50 to 100 mm from the edges of the cathode and at one point in the center of the cathode.

Allowed sampling of shavings by planing or milling of faces, obtained from the cutting of the cathode according to GOST 24231.

6.1.4 Spot samples from the cut cathodes taken at three points on the diagonal cut of the cathode from the corner to the center equally spaced from each other or milling (planing) of faces obtained from the cutting of the cathode for part.

6.1.5 Spot samples in the form of discs or the combined sample chips weighing at least 500 grams pre-treated with a magnet, is melted in a graphite crucible with a cover in an induction furnace or resistance furnace. The molten metal in the crucible is kept under a lid for 5−10 min and poured into a graphite mould two test ingot with a diameter of 35 mm and a height of 20−30 mm. Bullion is kept in the forms of air not more than 1 min, then removed from forms and cool in cold water. Graphite crucible before use is pre-washed by melting of copper of the same party.

(Changed edition, Rev. N 1)

6.1.6 Test bars are subjected to mechanical processing to remove the oxidized layer and the casting defects and, if necessary, cut vertically into equal parts.

A test ingot or part completely pulverized by grinding, milling, planing or drilling tool with a carbide cutter or use directly in a compact form for determination of chemical composition by spectral methods.

6.1.7 a Sample chip, if necessary, pulverized, and treated with a magnet and cut way kvantovaniya to the mass of not less than 150 g.

Be used for the chemical analysis of the combined sample chips, obtained from the cathodes, without its melting.

6.1.8 For determining the mass fraction of oxygen from the two cathodes from the party cut out or cut out on two samples from each cathode in the locations of the point samples (in one of the corners and the center) the entire thickness of the cathode.
