This standard applies to manufactured by way of crimping metal covered electrodes for manual arc welding of steels and surfacing of the surface layers of steels and alloys.

The standard does not apply to electrodes for welding of surface layers of non-ferrous metals and their alloys.

1. CLASSIFICATION

1.1. Classification of electrodes shall be as defined below.

1.2. The purpose of the electrodes are divided into:

1.7. The coating electrodes are divided into:

Note. When the coating composition of the iron powder in the amount more than 20% to the designation of the coating of the electrodes should be added the letter J.

1.8. The permitted spatial positions of welding or hardfacing electrodes are divided into:

for all positions — 1;

for all positions, except vertical from top to bottom — 2;

for the lower, horizontal to vertical plane and vertical bottom-up — 3;

lower and lower in the boat — 4.

1.9. By the nature and polarity used for welding or the welding current and the nominal voltage of the used power source of the welding arc alternating current with frequency of 50 Hz, the electrodes are classified in accordance with table.1.

7. On separate electrodes, total number of which shall not exceed 10% of the total number of controlled electrodes, may be increased to a limit deviation of length of the electrode up to ±4 mm.

8. Form Stripping of the coating from the contact end of the electrode should be tapered, rounded or transition between the conical and rounded. The angle of taper and the radius of curvature is not regulated, however, in any case, the contact end of the electrode must be free from coating.

9. On separate electrodes, total number of which shall not exceed 10% of the total number of controlled electrodes allowed flat Stripping the coating over the contact end of the electrode around the perimeter or on separate sites in the absence of the surface contact end.

10. The contact end of the electrode may be coated with a layer of ionizing substances that facilitate excitation of the welding arc, the composition of which must meet the stipulated standard or specifications for the electrodes of specific mark.

3. TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS

3.1. The electrodes should be manufactured in accordance with the requirements of this standard and GOST 9467, GOST or GOST 10051 10052 and standards or technical specifications for the electrodes of specific brands.

The electrodes of marks that are not related to types according to GOST 9467, GOST or GOST 10051 10052 shall be made in accordance with the requirements of this standard, standards or technical specifications for the electrodes of specific mark.

Note. Standards and technical specifications for the electrodes of specific brands should be agreed with the organization (enterprise)-developer of the electrodes of these brands.

3.2. The rods of the electrodes should be of the welding wire intended for the manufacture of electrodes according to GOST 2246 or technical requirements, establishing the chemical composition of the metal wire and providing for other requirements according to GOST 2246.

3.3. The coating of the electrodes should be thick, durable, no blisters, voids, nodules, cracks, except surface cracks permitted under clause 3.4, and irregularities, with the exception of local dents and nicks allowed by PP.3.5 and 3.7.

3.4. On the surface of the coating of the electrodes allowed the surface longitudinal cracks and local mesh cracking, the length (maximum size) which does not exceed three times the nominal diameter of the electrode, if the minimum distance between the closest ends of the cracks or (and) edges of the sections of local mesh cracking, more than three times the length of the longer cracks or cracking.

3.5. On the surface of the coating of the electrodes allowed the local dent depth of not more than 50% of the thickness of the coating in an amount of not more than four at a total length up to 25 mm in one electrode.

Two local indentations, located on both sides of the electrode in one cross-section may be taken for one, if their total depth does not exceed 50% of the thickness of the coating.

3.6. In the area of the electrode adjacent to the stripped coating from the contact end of the electrode allowed the bleakness of the rod length by the length of electrode is not more than half the stem diameter, but not more than 1.6 mm for electrodes with basic coating and not more than 2/3 of stem diameter, but not more than 2.4 mm for electrodes with sour, cellulose and rutile coating.

3.7. On the surface of the coating allowed the local bullies with the length of not more than 15 mm at a depth of no more than 25% of the nominal coating thickness number not more than two on a single electrode.

3.11. The coating should not collapse in free fall of the electrode flat on a smooth steel plate from a height:

1 m — for electrodes with a diameter of less than 4 mm;

0.5 m — for electrodes with a diameter of 4 mm or more.

By agreement between the manufacturer and the consumer, for electrodes with a diameter of more than 5 mm may reduce the drop height to 0.3 m.

For electrodes with thick coating containing more than 35% of metal components, for electrodes with especially thick coating of the height of the drop shall be established by the standard or specifications for the electrodes of specific mark.

When checking allowed partial spalling of the coating with a total length of up to 5% of the length of the covered part of the electrode, but not more than 20 mm.

3.12. Welding-technological properties of electrodes while observing the modes and conditions of welding, established by the standard or specifications for the electrodes of specific mark, and in the absence of the magnetic blast should meet the following requirements:

the arc should be easy to get excited and stably burn;

the coating should melt evenly, without excessive splashing, forking pieces and education of a cover or visor, impeding the melting of the electrode when welding in all positions, recommended for electrodes of this brand;

formed when welding slag must ensure the correct formation of beads of weld and easily removed after cooling;

in the weld metal and in the metal, deposited intended for welding electrodes should be free of cracks, tears and surface of pores;

the maximum sizes and number of inner pores and slag inclusions in the weld metal should not exceed the limits specified in table.5.

3.13. On separate electrodes, total number of which shall not exceed 10% of the total number of controlled electrodes, it is allowed:

the presence on the surface of each electrode is not more than two transverse tears, not larger than half of the circumference of the coating, the surface traces of the adhesion of the electrodes, no more than three then, with an external size of not more than 1.5 mm for electrodes with diameter up to 4 mm inclusively and not more than 2.0 mm for electrodes with diameter more than 4 mm;

the increase in the length of surface longitudinal cracks and areas of local mesh cracking on the surface of the coating to values in excess of norms according to claim 3.4, but not more than 50%;

the increase in the total length of the dents on the surface to 35 mm;

the increase in the number of local scuffing on the coating surface up to three at the electrode.

3.14. Chemical composition of deposited metal, mechanical and special properties of weld metal, weld metal or weld joint (the content of ferrite phase, resistance against intergranular corrosion, etc.), the deposition rate, the consumption of electrodes on 1 kg of deposited metal, the ratio of the mass of the coating, the moisture content in the coating, the gross allocation of the most harmful substances when using electrodes shall conform to the requirements of the standard or technical specifications for the electrodes of specific mark.

3.15. The shelf life of the electrodes in compliance with the established standard conditions of transportation and storage is not restricted.

4. ACCEPTANCE RULES

4.1. To check the compliance of the electrodes with the requirements of this standard, the manufacturing enterprise must carry out acceptance testing of each batch of electrodes.

Thus check the conformity of the electrodes to the requirements of the PP.3.9 and 3.12, as well as the requirements of the standard or technical specifications for the electrodes of specific mark in the chemical composition of the deposited metal, mechanical and special properties and characteristics of the deposited metal, weld metal or welded joint.

The need to check the electrodes for compliance with the requirements of paragraphs.2.1, 3.3−3.7, 3.11, and also check the moisture content in the coating, and the ratio of the mass of the coating is installed in a standard or technical specifications for the electrodes of specific mark. However, the manufacturer must ensure compliance of the electrodes to these requirements.

4.2. Each batch should consist of electrodes of the same brand, same diameter.

All included in the batch electrodes should be manufactured in one technological process, on the same equipment, using rods of wire of the same brand with the permanent coating composition of the components of the same parties. The party of the electrodes with rods, of alloy or high-alloy wire must be manufactured using wire of one party.

2. In the cases established by the standard or specifications for the electrodes of specific mark, with the consent of the consumer allowed the manufacturing of a series of electrodes with the use of rods, of alloy or high-alloy wire of two or more parties that are close in chemical composition of the metal. In this case the party should consist of wire of the same brand, same diameter, one destination and one type of surface.

4.3. The mass party of the electrodes depending on their purpose and diameter should not exceed the values given in table.6.

4.4. To check the compliance of the electrodes the requirements of paragraphs.2.1, 3.3−3.7, 3.13 from different packing places, but not less than ten, or at the outlet of the calcining furnace (not less than ten selections from the conveyor at equal intervals of time or from different trucks) take 0.5% of the electrodes from each ton, a member of the party, but not less than 10 and not more than 200 electrodes from the party.

4.8. From each batch of electrodes that passed the test on PP.4.4, 4.6 and 4.7 should be selected for the electrodes check the welding-technological properties, chemical composition of deposited metal mechanical properties of seam metal, deposited metal or of the welded joint, and special properties and characteristics of the deposited metal, weld metal or weld joint (the content of ferrite phase, resistance to intergranular corrosion, etc.) in an amount necessary for the implementation of relevant samples and specimens provided for in this standard and the standards or specifications for the electrodes of specific mark.

4.9. If unsatisfactory validation results according to claim 4.6 and according to claim 4.7 in terms of strength or ratio of coating mass a second check for twice the number of electrodes selected by the party. The results of the repeated checking are final and apply to the entire party.

If unsatisfactory validation results according to claim 4.7 in terms of moisture content in the coating or according to claim 4.8 in terms of size and number of pores (n.3.12) detected in the weld metal or deposited metal when testing of welding-technological properties, be re-calcination of all of the electrodes controlled the party and then reviewing the relevant indicators.

If unsatisfactory validation results according to claim 4.8 in part of the chemical composition of the deposited metal, mechanical and special properties and characteristics of the weld metal, weld metal or weld joint is allowed to re-run appropriate samples and twice the number of samples for the testing, which were unsatisfactory result. 5. TEST METHODS

5.14. 5.23. 6. PACKING, MARKING, TRANSPORTATION AND STORAGE

6.1. The electrodes should be Packed in boxes or bundles on one of the following options:

in hermetic plastic boxes (pencil boxes);
