Praseodymium oxide (Pr₆O₁₁), also known as praseodymium(III,IV) oxide, is an inorganic compound belonging to the group of rare-earth oxides. It is typically supplied as a fine, odorless powder with a characteristic black-brown to deep-black appearance and offers very high thermal stability.

Praseodymium oxide is insoluble in water but dissolves in strong inorganic acids, forming the corresponding praseodymium salts. Unlike many other rare-earth oxides, Pr₆O₁₁ is a mixed-valence compound containing both Pr³⁺ and Pr⁴⁺ ions.

One of the most important properties of praseodymium oxide is its ability to produce intense yellow to light-green coloration when incorporated into ceramic and glass matrices. The material also exhibits useful oxygen storage and exchange behavior at elevated temperatures, making it relevant for catalytic and electrochemical systems.

Pr₆O₁₁ is commonly produced by calcining praseodymium hydroxide, oxalate or carbonate in air at temperatures above 800 °C. Its combination of optical, thermal and redox properties makes it useful in pigments, catalysts, ceramics and advanced energy materials.

The element praseodymium is used both as praseodymium metal and in the form of specialized compounds. Praseodymium and its compounds are relevant for permanent magnets, specialty alloys, glass, ceramics, catalysts and fuel-cell technologies.
