Chromium granules are a high-purity, processed form of elemental chromium metal. The material is supplied as silvery-gray metallic granules with a defined particle-size distribution, typically ranging from 1 to 10 mm.

Compared with compact chromium pieces or fine chromium powder, the granular form offers important processing advantages. Its controlled particle size enables accurate dosing in automated alloying, melting and coating systems.

Chromium granules are commonly available in purities ranging from 99.5 to 99.99%. Low levels of oxygen, nitrogen, hydrogen and other impurities are especially important for high-performance alloys requiring strict control of chemical composition.

When exposed to air, the granules rapidly form a stable chromium(III) oxide passive layer. This provides good storage and corrosion resistance. Compared with very fine metallic powder, chromium granules also produce significantly less dust during handling.

Production is mainly carried out by vacuum remelting followed by granulation or atomization, or by mechanical crushing and classification of high-purity electrolytic chromium. The relatively high surface-to-volume ratio supports rapid and homogeneous dissolution in molten metals.

Chromium metal is widely used in advanced metallurgy, and chromium granules are particularly suitable for vacuum alloying, nickel-, cobalt- and titanium-based superalloys, PVD processes, sputtering targets and powder metallurgy.
