Germanium granules are a high-purity, finely divided product form of the semiconductor element germanium. The material is supplied as gray metallic granules with a defined particle size, typically in the range of 1 to 5 mm.

The granular form is particularly suitable for evaporation, alloying and high-vacuum processing. Its controlled geometry provides uniform packing in evaporation boats and crucibles and supports stable, homogeneous melting behavior.

Germanium granules are typically available in purity grades from 99.999% (5N) to 99.9999% (6N). Low impurity concentrations are especially important for functional thin-film deposition, semiconductor processing and research applications.

At room temperature, germanium has an indirect band gap of approximately 0.66 eV. It also offers excellent optical transmission in the infrared spectral range, particularly between approximately 2 and 14 µm.

Germanium is stable in dry air and forms germanium dioxide, GeO₂, at elevated temperatures. The material is insoluble in water but dissolves in oxidizing acid mixtures.

Granular germanium is mainly produced by crushing and fractionating zone-refined polycrystalline germanium ingots or by controlled solidification of high-purity molten germanium. Compared with massive ingots, the granular form offers lower thermal inertia and therefore faster melting during processing.

Germanium metal is particularly important in PVD processing, thin-film optics, chalcogenide glass synthesis, semiconductor technology and materials research. Would you like to buy germanium granules?
