Indium oxide (In₂O₃) is an amphoteric inorganic compound and an important starting material for transparent conductive oxide coatings used in modern display and semiconductor technologies. It is supplied as a fine pale-yellow to yellow-green powder and offers high thermal stability.

In₂O₃ predominantly crystallizes in a cubic bixbyite structure. It is an n-type semiconductor with a wide band gap of approximately 3.5-3.7 eV and provides high optical transparency across the visible spectral range.

In its pure form, indium oxide has moderate electrical conductivity. When doped with tin, it forms ITO - indium tin oxide - whose electrical conductivity can be increased significantly while maintaining high optical transparency. This makes the material particularly suitable for transparent electrode layers.

Indium oxide is insoluble in water but dissolves readily in hot mineral acids such as hydrochloric and nitric acid. Industrial production is mainly based on thermal calcination of indium hydroxide, indium nitrate or indium oxalate at temperatures above 700 °C.

In₂O₃ is well suited for functional thin-film deposition by PVD, CVD and Sol-Gel processing. High-purity grades can be used in sputtering-target production and other demanding electronic and optoelectronic processes.

Indium and its compounds are particularly important in ITO and IZO coatings, displays, thin-film transistors, solar cells, sensors and functional ceramics. Would you like to buy indium oxide?
