Indium(III) nitrate is a water-soluble inorganic indium salt. It is commonly supplied as a fine, white, strongly hygroscopic crystalline powder or as hydrated crystals with the general composition In(NO₃)₃·xH₂O, including trihydrate and pentahydrate forms.

Indium nitrate is highly soluble in water and polar organic solvents such as ethanol and isopropanol. This property makes it suitable for preparing homogeneous solutions with precisely controlled composition for wet-chemical and thin-film processes.

Hydrated forms begin to release crystal water at temperatures starting around 100 °C. Above approximately 240 °C, the compound decomposes with the release of nitrogen oxides, NOx, and forms indium(III) oxide, In₂O₃.

Because of its comparatively low decomposition temperature, indium nitrate is used as a solution-based precursor for functional indium compounds and oxide thin films. It is suitable for Sol-Gel processing, spray pyrolysis, chemical vapor deposition (CVD) and other solution-based synthesis methods.

Industrial production is based on dissolving high-purity indium metal or indium(III) hydroxide in concentrated nitric acid, followed by controlled crystallization.

Indium nitrate is used in the preparation of transparent conductive oxide materials, including indium tin oxide (ITO) and indium zinc oxide (IZO). It also serves as a precursor for solution-processed oxide semiconductors such as InGaZnO / IGZO used in thin-film transistors and display technologies.

Indium and its compounds are particularly important in thin-film coatings, semiconductor technology, catalysis and nanomaterial synthesis. Would you like to buy indium nitrate?
