Chromium(III) oxide (Cr₂O₃), also known as chromium oxide or chromium oxide green, is an inorganic metal oxide and the most stable oxide of chromium. It is typically supplied as a fine, odorless powder with a characteristic olive-green to dark-green color and offers exceptionally high thermal stability.
Cr₂O₃ crystallizes in a corundum structure of the α-Al₂O₃ type, giving the material a high Mohs hardness of approximately 8-8.5. Chromium oxide is insoluble in water and alcohols and is characterized by high chemical inertness.
One of the most important properties of chromium oxide is its excellent resistance to light, weathering, elevated temperatures and UV radiation. Its stable green coloration makes it an important inorganic pigment for construction materials, coatings, plastics and ceramics.
Its high hardness and corundum structure also make Cr₂O₃ suitable as an abrasive, lapping and polishing material for stainless steel, specialty metals, optical glass and gemstones.
Chromium oxide is additionally used in refractory ceramics, metallurgy, catalytic systems and wear-resistant coatings. It can serve as a component of refractory materials, as a catalyst or catalyst support and as a feedstock for thermally sprayed HVOF protective coatings.
The element chromium and its compounds are widely used in metallurgy, protective coatings, pigments, ceramics and catalyst technology. Would you like to buy chromium oxide?
