An amendment made by the manufacturer of the database
This standard specifies a method of measuring Rockwell hardness (scales A, b, C, D, E, F, G, H, K) at a temperature of (20) °C.
The essence of the method consists in introducing into the surface of the sample (or item) diamond cone (scale A, C, D) or spherical steel tip (scales b, E, F, G, H, K) under the action consistently efforts pre — and primary efforts in determining the penetration depth of the tip after removing the main stress ().
Denote parameters, their definitions and schemes of application of the load in the hardness test are given in Appendix 1.
(Changed edition, Rev. N 3).
1. SAMPLING
1.1. The thickness of the sample (or article) should be at least 10 times greater than the depth of penetration of the tip after removing the main stress ().
The minimum thickness of the specimen or product defined in accordance with Annex 2.
1.2. The roughness of the sample surface (or areas for measuring the hardness of the product) should be no more than 2.5 µm according to GOST 2789, unless otherwise indicated in the normative-technical documentation for metal products.
1.3. The sample must be prepared in such a way that did not change its properties by mechanical or other processing, for example, by annealing or work hardening.
Sec. 1. (Changed edition, Rev. N 3).
Sec. 2. (Deleted, Rev. N 3).
3. EQUIPMENT
3.1. Devices for measuring the hardness shall conform to the requirements of GOST 23677.
Devices for measuring the hardness should ensure that efforts are shown in table.1.

3.2. The tip of the diamond cone-type NK GOST 9377, the apex angle is 120°, the radius of the spherical part of 0.2 mm.
3.3. Tip steel ball. The nominal diameters of the balls needs to be 1,588 (scales, F, G) and 3.175 mm (scale E, H, K) according to GOST 3722. The surface roughness of the ball - not more than 0,040 µm according to GOST 2789.
Limit deviations of the diameter of the ball must not exceed:
±0,003 mm for ball diameter 1,588 mm;
±0.004 mm for ball diameter 3,175 mm.
3.4. Table or stand should have a hardness on the bearing surfaces not less than 50 HRC.
(Amendment. ICS N 8−2002).
4. HARDNESS MEASUREMENT
4.1. The hardness measurement is carried out at a temperature of (20) °C. the differences in the results of the hardness measurement is carried out at a temperature of (23±5) °C.
4.2. The support surface of the table and stands, as well as supporting and working surface of the sample (or product) must be cleaned from foreign matter (scale, grease, etc.).
4.3. The sample shall be placed on a table or stand steadily in order to avoid its displacement and deflection during the measurement of hardness.
4.4. When measuring hardness the appliance must be protected from vibration and shock.
4.5. When measuring hardness must follow the terms:
smooth bringing the tip in contact with the working surface of the sample (or article);
a smooth application in the preliminary and main (2−8 C) effort;
smooth withdrawal of the main efforts within 1−3 s after the sharp slowdown or stop the arrows of the indicator (or variation in the readings of a digital reading device).
For metals, the measurement of hardness of which the sharp deceleration or stop of the arrow of the indicator (or variation in the readings of the digital readout device) is not observed, the exposure time under a common effort should be between 10 to 15 seconds.
If there are indications in the normative-technical documentation for the products specified exposure time can be increased up to 60 s.
4.6. The distance between the centers of two adjacent prints must be at least four times the diameter of imprint (but not less than 2 mm).
The distance from the center of the print to the edge of the sample should not be less than 2.5 indentation diameter (but not less than 1 mm).
4.7. On the surface of the sample (or article) shall be no deformation traces from the print.
4.8. The number of Rockwell hardness is determined according to the scale indicator or digital indicator reading device rounded to the nearest 0.5 units of hardness.
4.9. When measuring hardness for convex cylindrical and spherical surfaces on scales A, b, C, D, F, G the results of hardness measurement needs to be amended, the magnitude of which is given in Annex 3. Amendments added to the obtained hardness values.
The amendments in the measurement of the hardness of the concave surfaces are established in the normative-technical documentation for metal products.
4.10. After changing the tip, operating table or stand the first three dimensions are not considered.
4.11. The number of prints when measuring hardness, a method of processing the results of measurements are specified in normative and technical documentation for metal products.
5. TEST REPORT
5.1. In the minutes of the hardness measurement should indicate:
values and the scale of hardness;
the duration of exposure of the indicator under total load in the case of differences from the standard conditions;
the designation of the sample.

* The hardness is measured on a scale in accordance with GOST 8.064.
(Amendment. ICS N 8−2002).
The Rockwell hardness is denoted by the symbol HR, indicating the hardness scale, which is preceded by the numeric hardness value of three significant digits. For example: 61,5 HRC — Rockwell hardness of 61.5 units on the scale S.
