6. REPRINT (February 1993) with amendment No. 1, approved in may 1990 (IUS 8−90)
This standard specifies the methods of tensile testing of ferrous and nonferrous metals and products from them with nominal diameter or minimum size in cross section is 3.0 mm or more, and for thin sheets and strips of a thickness of 0.5 mm determination at temperatures from 10 to minus 100 °C characteristics mechanical properties:
tensile strength;
the yield strength of the physical;
the yield strength of the conditioned;
temporary resistance;
relative uniform elongation;
elongation after rupture;
the relative narrowing of the cross section after the break.
The standard does not apply to wire and pipes.
Terms used in this standard, and explain to them — in accordance with GOST 1497−84.
(Changed edition, Rev. No. 1).
1. SAMPLING METHOD
1.1. Types and sizes of flat and cylindrical proportional specimens is given in the Appendix.
If there are indications in the normative-technical documentation for steel allowed the use of proportional samples of other types and sizes.
1.2. Requirements for the construction of the samples, their maximum deviations in sizes of the working part, the labeling in accordance with GOST 1497−84.
2. EQUIPMENT
2.1. Equipment — in accordance with GOST 1497−84 with additions.
2.1.1. The working space of the testing machine should enable to set the cryochamber with extension rods for mounting samples, which should provide a reliable centering of the specimen in the grips of the testing machine.
2.1.2. Thermometers shall conform to the requirements of GOST 28498−90.
(Changed edition, Rev. No. 1).
2.1.3. Thermoelectric converters (thermocouples) must meet the requirements of GOST 14894−69.
2.1.4. The regulating and measuring instruments shall comply with trebovaniye 9245−79.
2.1.5. Cryochamber design should ensure uniform cooling of the working part of the sample.
2.1.6. The cooling of the sample to a predetermined test temperature and testing is carried out in a liquid medium. Allowed cooling of the sample to a predetermined test temperature and the test is in the cooled gaseous environment.
2.1.7. As the liquid medium used ethyl alcohol GOST 18300−87, refrigerated carbon dioxide liquid according to GOST 12162−77 or nitrogen liquid graveyard 9293−74, or ice.
For cooling the samples to a temperature of minus 70 °C are used ethyl alcohol, cooled with solid carbon dioxide or liquid nitrogen, to temperatures below minus 70 to minus 100 °C — liquid nitrogen. For cooling samples to temperatures below 20 to 0 °C allowed to use ethyl alcohol cooled with ice.
2.1.8. Cooling gases (air, neutral gas) in the cryochamber carried out by evaporation of the introduced into the working space of the cryostat of liquid nitrogen.
2.1.9. To measure the temperature of the medium used thermometers liquid (nechutne) with divisions of no more than 1 °C or thermoelectric converters with the secondary instruments of accuracy class not less than 0.5.
3. PREPARING FOR THE TEST
3.1. Measurement of specimen dimensions, the definition of the initial cross sectional area , the establishment, application and measurement of the initial effective lengths — according to GOST 1497−84.
3.2. Test temperature specified in normative and technical documentation for metal products.
When constructing temperature test curves is recommended at temperatures of 20, 0, minus 20, minus 40, minus 60, minus 80, minus 100 °C.
3.3. The temperature in the cryostat at the required level is maintained by periodic introduction of a small extra cooler with vigorous stirring of the medium or through continuous feed cooler at a given temperature.
In the absence of guidance in the normative-technical documentation for metal products is permitted a temporary supercooling of the sample.
4. TESTING
4.1. The sample in the cryostat and cooled to a predetermined temperature, after the set time of aging test.
4.2. During the exposure the temperature deviation of the cooling medium from the statutory shall not exceed ±2°C.
4.3. The exposure time of the sample at the specified test temperature shall be indicated in the normative-technical documentation for metal products.
In the absence of such guidance the exposure time during cooling of the samples in a liquid medium shall:
at least 10 min. for cylindrical samples with a diameter of 6.0 mm or less, and for flat samples with thickness 4.0 mm or less;
at least 15 min for cylindrical samples with a diameter of more than 6.0 mm and for flat samples with thickness more than 4.0 mm.
When the samples are cooled in a gaseous environment, exposure time is determined experimentally depending on the design of the cryostat and the input of the chiller.
4.4. Other requirements for the testing, processing the results — according to GOST 1497−84.
To specify the test temperature to the determined marking characteristics of the mechanical properties add the corresponding numeric index.
Example: , , , — the yield strength conditional with the tolerance on the amount of residual deformation of 0.2%, tensile strength, elongation after rupture of the sample , the relative narrowing of the cross section after rupture, defined at the test temperature minus 60 °C.
