REPLACE GOST 8817−73
* REPRINTED August 1986, with Change No. 1 approved in August 1985 (IUS 11−85).
This standard specifies the test method for sediment rolled sections and wire of iron and non-ferrous metals in cold and hot conditions.
The essence of the method consists in the sediment of the sample under the action of the compressive force along its axis at normal or elevated temperature and is used to determine the ability of metal to withstand a given relative degree of deformation, and to detect surface defects.
The standard fully complies ST SEV 2839−81.
1. SAMPLING METHOD
1.1. Sampling for testing on sediment is carried out in accordance with GOST 7564−73*.
______________
* On the territory of the Russian Federation GOST 7564−97. — Note the manufacturer’s database.
1.2. The main parameter of the cross section of the sample (diameter, thickness, side of a square, the inscribed circle diameter) shall be: from 3 to 30 mm for testing in cold condition; 5 to 200 mm for trials in hot conditions.
Test in the hot state samples with cross-sectional dimension of over 150 mm are produced according to the customer’s request for special purpose products.
(Changed edition, Rev. N 1).
1.3. Height of samples for tests on the residue should be equal to two main parameters of the cross section for ferrous metals and one-half the basic parameters of the cross section for non — ferrous metals, unless otherwise specified in the normative-technical documentation for metal products. Deviation in height of the specimen shall not exceed ±5%.
1.4. The samples must be raw surface. The use of samples with machined surface must be specified in normative and technical documentation for metal products.
In the application of machining, the machining marks should be perpendicular to the axis of the specimen.
1.5. The ends of the sample should be parallel. The axis of the sample perpendicular to the plane of its end.
1.6. The number of test samples is established in the normative-technical documentation on the specific kind of product.
2. EQUIPMENT
Universal testing machine according to GOST 7855−84.
The press according to GOST 8905−82.
Mechanical hammers or hand mallets.
The base plate, devices for protection of samples from skew.
The heating device of various design, providing uniform heating of samples to a predetermined temperature.
Devices for temperature control according to GOST 6616−74.
3. TESTING
3.1. Tests are conducted under static or dynamic load.
3.2. Tests on sediment in a cold state is carried out at a temperature of 20°C.
3.3. Testing on sediment in the hot state initial heating temperature, holding time and temperature of the end of precipitation is specified in the normative-technical documentation for metal products.
3.4. Testing on sediment is carried out until the sample of finite height (mm), calculated according to the formula
,
where is the height of the sample before precipitation, mm;
— relative deformation, %.
The relative strain of 50.65 or 75% for ferrous metals and 65% for non — ferrous metals if other is not stipulated normative-technical documentation for metal products.
4. PROCESSING OF THE RESULTS
4.1. A sample is considered satisfactory if, after reaching a given relative degree of deformation at a Deposit on the side surface of the sample is not observed is created or opened cracks, laps, tears. Evaluation of test results the appearance of roughness on the lateral surface of the sample is carried out according to normative-technical documentation for metal products.
4.2. Inspection of the sample surface after the test is carried out visually or, if so specified in the normative-technical documentation with the use of a magnifying glass with magnification of no more than 6.
4.3. The test results recorded in the minutes, which must include:
the grade of metal and the reference sample;
the surface condition of the sample;
the type of load;
test temperature (after testing in a hot state);
the specimen dimensions before and after the test;
equipment;
the results of the test;
the designation of this standard.
