Welding and brazing ferrules

Soldering

When brazing ferrules, the same fluxes, gases and solders can be used as recommended for nickel alloys. Special fluxes are necessary because the surface of fahl is covered by a very persistent oxide film. The additional alloying of this alloy increases the resistance of the oxide film and makes brazing difficult.

Gas Media

It is desirable that the gas media used have no sulfur compounds, as the interaction of sulfur and nickel leads to the formation of a fusible eutectic that penetrates deep into the grain boundaries and causes brittleness of the metal. Brazing of heat-resistant nickel-based alloys in a gas reducing environment requires careful cleaning of the oxygen residue with a dunite or platinum catalyst and additional drying to the dew point (-70 ° C). When brazing such alloys in a vacuum or in neutral gas environments - they should be thoroughly dried with barium peroxide, phosphoric anhydride or zeolite. Before soldering, phehrals are often coated with a 15 µm thick layer of copper or nickel. This facilitates wetting of the solder surfaces in neutral environments and vacuum without the use of flux.

Solders

Low-temperature brazing of fahl requires the use of lead-tin brazing alloys, which contain 40 to 60% Sn, and also requires the use of special fluxes. Silver solders are used for fehral structures that operate at temperatures up to 500 °C. Copper brazing alloys are seldom used because of their low corrosion resistance and heat resistance. In addition, nickel dissolves in the solder during the copper soldering process. Therefore, strict control of soldering temperature and precise dosage of solder are required. When brazing ferrules with beryllium and boron alloys, the brazed metal also dissolves in the brazing material and it is therefore necessary to solder without excessive heat and rapidly with strict adherence to the brazing conditions.

Welding

The best method for joining ferrules is argon-arc welding with a tungsten DC electrode. As a rule, phechral or food-grade stainless steel is also used as an additive. This method guarantees a high quality of the weld when using direct direct current polarity. Tungsten non-consumable electrodes are made according to GOST 23 949-80. Fusible carbide-tungsten electrodes are regulated by GOST 21 448-75. The electrodes of such type are both of round cross-section (dimensions from 0.5 to 3x40 mm) and flat type (4x2x40, 1.5x2x40, 1.5x3x40). Features of tungsten carbide electrodes and manufacturing technology of such a composition provide excellent operating resistance and high thermal stability of the welding arc.
