Obsolete silicon transistors

25 March 2014

It's no secret that all computers and mobile appliances in use tends to heat up. This fact does not depend on the company laptop or tablet manufacturer or the cost of such equipment. And the more powerful the processor in the device, the more intense and faster the heat. This property makes the designers equipped with a computer and other such techniques powerful cooling systems that are cluttering useful workspace and further increase the cost of the device. How can we explain such an intense heating and where to look for a way out of this situation? Explain the problem simply — a standard silicon transistors, which are used in this technique is already a very long time, irrevocably obsolete. Over time, technical devices are becoming more complex and the silicon elements becomes not the strength to cope effectively with such a load. Moreover, the more power the device, the greater the amount of silicon is to heat energy, and therefore is wasted. A solution to the problem is almost on the surface is only a closer look and change the usual point of view.

A new look at familiar things used research staff of the University is located in Los Angeles. They proposed the use of energy as a new generation transmitter materials called «multiferroic». The main difference of this conductor from outdated analog silicon — the existence of spin waves. Due to the fact that such materials are included in the job only at the time of voltage application, all of the energy used for its intended purpose and does not go on useless heating structural parts of the device. The phenomenon, which allows electrons in the composition of the energy flow of work so purposefully, called spin wave bus (spin — wave channel). Efficient operation of the channel is defined by the fact that the basis of the motion of electrons is the wave trajectory. The peculiar energy waves rolled on one another, but the electrons remain in place without moving in the horizontal direction, and only vary from top to bottom and vice versa. A similar effect has allowed scientists to create a completely unique device with very high efficiency and minimal loss of heat.
