AMMC has suspended construction of a factory producing lead

Almalyk Mining and Metallurgical Combine (AMMC) is currently temporarily stopped work on the construction of the plant for the production of lead due to the unprofitability of the project. Previously, investment in it is estimated by experts at 60 mln. US dollars.

According to the company, currently underway to develop a new project of the plant. Earlier it was planned that construction work at the plant (production capacity to 15 thousand. Tons of lead per year) will begin in July this year. Funds for the project set out to take part from the budget of the Almalyk Mining and Metallurgical Combine (20 mln. USD). Another part of the required amount (40 million. Dollars) should be obtained with the opening lines of credit in large Uzbek banks.

Recall that the Almalyk Mining and Metallurgical Plant — the only enterprise producing copper in Uzbekistan. Furthermore, AMMC covers 20% of the gold production and 90% of silver in the country. In addition to the resources listed above, the plant is engaged in production of lead concentrate, zinc and other metal products. The raw material base of the company are copper-porphyry ores «Kalmakyr» and «Sarah-Ceku», as well as ores quarry «Khandiza» and mine lead-zinc-barite raw «Uch-Kulach».

Today, Uzbekistan is in fourth place in the world in terms of proven gold reserves and seventh in the world in terms of its production (it is about 80 tonnes of the precious metal each year). In explored reserves of copper country is the tenth-eleventh place in the world, proven uranium reserves — eleven or twelve, and uranium mining — the seventh or eighth.

Open Joint Stock Company «Almalyk Mining and Metallurgical Plant» is located in the Tashkent region (Almalyk city). Factory, founded in 1949, is considered the largest in the whole of Central Asia now for the production of copper. Today — this is a complex industrial complex for the extraction and processing of non-ferrous and precious metals. The structure of the organization's assets group includes three open pit mines, four underground mine for the extraction of gold, four mining and enrichment plants, a few steel mills, lime and mechanical repair plants, plant for the production of sulfuric acid, several depot and other support units. The main objectives of AMMC now — is the optimization of production and reduction of production costs, and the introduction of the production cycle of innovative resource-saving technologies and an increase in productivity of the enterprise as a whole.
