The re-release (Oct 1988) with Amendments No. 1, 2, 3, approved in March 1977, December 1982, Post. 5874 31.12.81, June 1986 (IUS 5−77, 3−82, 9−86).

This standard applies to forgings for General purpose diameter (thickness) up to 800 mm of structural carbon, low alloy and alloyed steel manufactured by forging and hot stamping.

The standard establishes the group of forgings and the main technical requirements for acceptance and delivery them.

The standard does not replace existing standards and technical conditions for separate types of forgings, which meet specific requirements regarding production method, the surface quality, the use of special heat treatments, etc.

1. TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS

1.1. Forgings shall be manufactured in accordance with the requirements of this standard according to the drawings approved in the prescribed manner, and normative-technical documentation for specific products. Forging the types of tests are divided into the groups listed in the table. 1.

(Changed edition, Rev. No. 3).

1.2. The classification of forgings to one group or another is made by the consumer, the group number specified in the specifications on the detail drawing.

1.3. At the request of the consumer, the delivery of the forgings should be performed with additional types of tests not provided for this standard (check for flocs, the trial by Bauman, ultrasound and periscope control, determination of residual stresses, yield strength at operating temperatures, the determination of fracture toughness at operating temperatures and negative, macro — and microanalysis of structure steel, alloy bends, determination of grain size, etc.). In this case, the forgings also belong to one of the groups: II, III, IV and V in accordance with table. 1.

The type, scope, rules and methods for additional testing are indicated in the drawing, forging or order.

Note. A group of quality forgings for ultrasonic control is adjusted in accordance with GOST 24507−80.

(Changed edition, Rev. No. 1, 3).

4. Allowed determination of hardness of forgings of group V to produce the samples for mechanical testing.

(Changed edition, Rev. No. 1, 2).

1.4. (Deleted, Rev. No. 2).

1.5. The starting material for the manufacture of forgings can serve as bars, crimped blanks (blooms), forged or rolled blanks and billets from continuous casting of steel (continuous caster) and various types of rolled products.

1.6. Forgings made of carbon, low alloy and alloy steel, the chemical composition shall conform to the requirements of GOST 380−88, GOST 1050−74,GOST 19281−73, GOST 4543−71 and other applicable standards or technical conditions.

Recommended steel grades depending on the diameter (thickness) of forgings and demand category strength after the final heat treatment is given in the Appendix.

(Changed edition, Rev. No. 1).

1.7. The dimensions of the forgings must consider the machining allowances, tolerances on dimensions and technological overlaps for forgings manufactured by press forging according to GOST 7062−79 manufactured forging hammers according to GOST 7829−70 and manufactured by hot-stamping according to GOST 7505−74 and overlaps on the samples for control tests.

Allowed for forgings weighing over 100 tons, manufactured by press forging, allowances and overlaps in the set of normative-technical documentation on a specific forging.

(Changed edition, Rev. No. 2).

1.8. (Deleted, Rev. No. 1).

1.9. Mechanical properties of forgings delivered after final heat treatment, are divided into three categories of strength. Categories of strength, the corresponding norms of mechanical properties determined by testing on longitudinal samples and standards of hardness are given in table. 2.

Norms of hardness for forgings, II and III groups and categories of strength for forgings of IV and V groups are established by agreement between manufacturer and consumer. Steel grade is set by agreement between manufacturer and consumer and is indicated on the detail drawing and forging.

At the customer’s request tensile strength must be higher than given in table. 2 for a given category strength:

1.13. On the surface of the forgings shall not be cracked, sekulow, captivity, Pisochyn.

On machined surfaces of forgings are allowed dents from scale and nicks, as well as a gentle felling or trimming defects provided that the depth of these defects does not extend beyond the smallest permitted sizes of forgings according to GOST 7062−79 or according to normative-technical documentation for forgings weighing over 100 tons

On the surfaces of the forgings being chasing, defects are not allowed.

On the machined surfaces of forgings are allowed separate defects without removal, if their depth is determined by controlling the cutting or Stripping, does not exceed 75% of the actual unilateral allowance for machining, forging, forging manufactured, and 50% for forgings manufactured by stamping.

(Changed edition, Rev. No. 2).

1.14. For forgings carbon and low carbon steel at a maximum depth of defects in excess of the actual unilateral allowance for machining allowed the removal of the defects of shallow cutting and subsequent welding.

Permitted the welding depth should be agreed with the consumer.

1.15. Forgings should not have placenow, cracks, shrinkage looseness, the absence of which is guaranteed by the manufacturer.

Forgings that are experiencing the above defects, are rejected, and all other forgings of the batch can be deemed fit only after the individual control.

1.14; 1.15. (Changed edition, Rev. No. 1).

1.16. The mode of heat treatment is set by the manufacturer.

Forgings shall be heat treated in draft form and (or) after pre-machining (roughing, reaming, etc.). Allowed by agreement between manufacturer and consumer forgings to machining only prior to heat treatment. Forging group I may be subjected to heat treatment.

(Changed edition, Rev. No. 1, 2).

1.17. Forgings, since the heat treatment edit in a cold or heated condition, must be subjected to release to relieve internal stresses.

Forgings groups I, II and III can be delivered without subsequent tempering with the guarantee of the manufacturer of required properties after editing.

1.18. By agreement of the parties forgings are cleaned from scale.

Cleaning method shall be specified in the drawing or by the terms of the order.

2.6. Mechanical properties of forgings are determined for longitudinal, transverse, tangential or radial patterns. Kind of sample, if it is not specified in the drawing details, set by the manufacturer.

(Changed edition, Rev. No. 2).

2.7. Samples for determining the mechanical properties of forgings of the group V cut out of the lap left on each forging, and group IV — inlet for the sample or body forging, which is made incremental, the number of forgings.

Allowed samples for mechanical testing of forgings of the group IV cut from samples of the same or a larger cross-section, separately forged from metal of the same melting and similar treatment for forgings.

In this case, the sample must pass all the heating, including under forging or stamping, and simultaneously with the forgings of the batch heat treatment.

(Changed edition, Rev. No. 3).

2.8. The shape, size and location of the inlet for samples is determined by drawing forgings.

The size of the overlap on the sample should be sufficient to make all required samples.

In the manufacture of a single forging from ingot overlap on the sample must be from the profitable parts.

The forgings such as shafts and shells with a length of over 3 m, with appropriate reference to the drawing, forgings, slouchy fit to the sample must be provided at both ends.

2.9. The overlap on samples from forgings of alloy steel must be separated in a cold way, from forgings of carbon and low alloy steel, at the discretion of the manufacturer.

2.10. Samples for mechanical tests to be subjected to a further heat treatment or heating is not allowed.

2.11. In the manufacture of multiple parts from the same forging shown in one sample, the results of which is acceptance of all parts manufactured from the forging.

2.12. Samples for mechanical testing of forgings of cylindrical and prismatic shape is cut from the inlet or from the body of the forging so that its axis was at a distance of 1/3 of radius or 1/6 of the diagonal from the outer surface of the forging.

(Changed edition, Rev. No. 3).

2.13. When cutting samples from the reamed or hollow forgings with wall thickness up to 100 mm specimens cut so that its axis was at a distance of ½ of the wall thickness of the forging, and when the thickness is over 100 mm at a distance of 1/3 of the wall thickness of the forging from the outer surface.

In the manufacture of transverse or tangential specimens of the axis should pass the same distance as that for the longitudinal samples.

(Changed edition, Rev. No. 1, 3).

2.14. Place cuttings samples from forgings and represenational non-cylindrical shape in the absence of appropriate guidance on the detail drawing is set by the manufacturer.

2.15. Blanks for the samples can be taken from the forgings (not lap) by cutting core drill or cut, resulting machined forgings.

2.16. The number of samples for mechanical testing from each sample should be: one in tension, two in toughness.

2.17. Specimen preparation and tensile test are made according to GOST 1497−84 on samples five times the length with a calculated diameter of 10 mm.

Allowed to use the samples five times the length of the diameter calculated 6 or 5 mm.

2.18. Prototyping and test of toughness are produced according to GOST 9454−78 the samples of a type 1.

2.19. Brinell hardness number is determined according to GOST 9012−59.

If you cannot test on the device Brinell allowed to determine the hardness of other instruments that provide accuracy of ±10% of the number of hardness HB.

(Changed edition, Rev. No. 3).

2.20. If unsatisfactory results of mechanical tests at least one of the indicators for it are made of re-tests on twice the number of samples taken from the same batch of forgings.

If after re-testing received positive results, the whole batch of forgings is considered usable.

If after re-testing at least one of the samples is unsatisfactory, the batch of forgings is acceptable to be re-heat treated.

2.21. The number of reheat treatments should not be more than two.

Additional leave is not considered heat treatment and the number of holidays is not limited. After each heat treatment or additional vacation batch of forgings is tested as presented again.

The third heat treatment in the form of improvements allowed on large forgings in the cases when the normalization with the release does not provide the required mechanical properties.

2.20; 2.21. (Changed edition, Rev. No. 1).

2.22. (Deleted, Rev. No. 1).

2.23. For the final verification by the consumer of the quality of the workpieces and their compliance with the requirements of this standard shall apply the rules of sampling and test methods mentioned above.

3. THE MARKING, TRANSPORTATION, STORAGE

3.1. The place of labeling is indicated on the drawing forgings.

The marking must be clearly legible and contain the information specified in table. 5.
