Niobium is a refractory metal. Industrial production starts with a suitable raw material and requires refining, conversion to metal and further processing into a specified product form. The route and resulting properties depend on the grade and the intended application. A statement that a part is made of “niobium” alone does not define purity, dimensions, surface finish or the tests that a buyer may require.
