Production
During copper smelting, oxygen is actively absorbed to form CuO oxide, which reduces conductivity and ductility and can cause "hydrogen sickness". During subsequent heating in hydrogen, CuO decomposes, forming cracks and bubbles that reduce strength and ductility, as hydrogen combines with oxygen at high temperature to form water vapor, which delaminates the metal. Electric welding
Good thermal and electrical conductivity make electric spot and roller welding difficult. Thin copper parts can be welded with tungsten or molybdenum electrodes. Pre-tinning makes welding easier. If you have high-power transformers, it is better to weld butt-weld. Parts thicker than 2 mm can be welded by acetylene-oxygen welding, protecting them from oxidation and contamination. Soldering with hard and soft solders is the best way to join.
Cold work.
Copper is easy to stamp, but we should not forget that in the annealed state it has a pronounced anisotropy of mechanical properties, leading to the formation of festoons when deep drawing. Therefore copper sheet (strip) should be prepared according to a special technology. Finishing cutting of rolled copper is difficult because of the large size of this metal. Naked (hard) copper should be used for cutting parts.
